Problems solved by technology

[0005] Operating illumination and observation systems and microscopes incorporating such systems is often difficult and expensive to manufacture
Furthermore, the image quality of known illumination and viewing systems, while much improved in the past, still leaves room for improvement

Embodiment Construction

[0039] First, refer to figure 1 The design and function of the illumination and observation system 1 in the microscope 2 are explained. figure 1 A schematic plan view of the main objective 3 with a first observation pupil 4 and a second observation pupil 5 is shown. The first observation pupil 4 and the second observation pupil 5 are preferably used to assist eg an assistant or student in ophthalmic surgery.

[0040] The on-axis illumination 6 is directed through the first observation pupil 4 , while the main illumination 7 is directed through the second observation pupil 5 . Preferably, there is no overlap of the primary illumination with the first observation pupil 4 and / or no coaxial illumination in the second observation pupil 5 .

[0041] figure 1 The setup shown is particularly useful for microscopes 2 used in ophthalmic surgery, so-called ophthalmic microscopes. At the object to be observed, ie in the object plane, the main illumination 7 produces an illumination fi...

Abstract

The invention relates to an Illumination and observation system (1), in particular for an ophthalmic microscope. The system comprises a first observation pupil (4) and a second observation pupil (5) for the eyes of an observer such as an assistant. Further, the system comprises a coaxial illumination (6) in the first observation pupil (4) and a main illumination (7), the coaxial illumination (6) being adapted to generate a red reflex (13) in the observed eye in operation and the main illumination having a larger field of illumination than the coaxial illumination (6, 10, 11). In order to facilitate usage of the system (1) and / or the microscope (2) and to create a superior stereoscopic view using the red reflex (13), a control subsystem (21, 27) is provided which is adapted to automaticallyadjust an intensity of the main illumination (7) depending on a change in an intensity of the coaxial illumination (6).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an illumination and observation system for a microscope, in particular for performing ophthalmic surgery, wherein the system comprises a first observation pupil and a second observation pupil for the eyes of an observer (e.g. an assistant) , and coaxial illumination in the first viewing pupil adapted to produce a red reflection in the observed eye when in operation. [0002] The invention also relates to a microscope, in particular a microscope for ophthalmic surgery comprising such a system. Finally, the invention relates to a method of microscopy by using coaxial illumination to illuminate an object coaxially through the first observation pupil and by using primary illumination to illuminate a larger field of illumination in the object plane than the coaxial illumination to illuminate the object. Background technique [0003] Ophthalmic microscopes, i.e. microscopes used in eye surgery, typically include two differe...
