Abstract

The present disclosure provides a port. In an embodiment, a port is provided and includes (i) an optional top portion, (ii) a base, and a channel extending through the optional top portion and the base for passage of a flowable material, and (iii) a septum extending across the channel. The septum comprises an ethylene/alpha-olefin multi-block copolymer.

Description

Background technique [0001] This disclosure relates to ports for containers. [0002] Ported flexible containers are known. One port is an annular tubular structure used to obtain fluid components from inside the container. Ports usually include a permeable membrane, a septum made of rubber or silicone. [0003] This traditional port has drawbacks. Ports with rubber / silicone diaphragms are expensive. The material cost of the rubber / silicone diaphragm is usually greater than the cost of the entire port / vessel assembly and its fluid components. Second, production requires a multi-stage assembly procedure to mechanically secure and properly fit the rubber / silicone diaphragm into the port, which is made of a different material than the diaphragm material. These limitations limit the number of packaging applications for ports with rubber / silicone septa. [0004] There is therefore a need for a port for a flexible container with a septum having few parts and few production ste...
