The method comprises the steps of: obtaining complete map data information, and discretizing the map data into a series of track points; obtaining GPS point position data of the vehicle, wherein the GPS point position data comprises latitude and longitude information, instantaneous vehicle speed, and time; gridding the GPS point position data of the vehicle and track point data of the map, and projecting the GPS in a same grid to the sub-section of the path; and calculating the distance between adjacent tracks on the same path of the vehicle. According to the method, speed data of the vehicle is mapped to the sub-section of the path where the GPS is located using the method of mapping point position speed, so that the travel speed is calculated; and the device has the characteristics of being high in accuracy and good in stability.
