Embodiment 1

[0222] Use the composition shown in Table 2 to prepare a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) of Example 1. All quantities shown are provided by the number of parts by weight (part by weight). The material is compounded using a co-rotating twin screw extruder and subjected to 300 rpm mixing (rpm) for up to three minutes. The extruder and mold temperature is set at 171°C. Pour the PSA onto the peel pad 2. The peel pad 1 is then laminated using a roll onto the exposed adhesive surface of the transfer belt. Then, as described in the above test method, the peel creep rate, peel bond strength and shear strength of the resulting laminated product are evaluated. The results are shown in Table 4 and Table 5 below.

Embodiment 2-11

[0224] Repeating Example 1, having the following modifications shown in Table 2. In addition to the one shown in Table 2, Example 5 comprises an EVA black of 0.3pbw. Then, as described in the above test method, the peel creep rate, peel bond strength and shear strength of the resulting laminated product are evaluated. The results are shown in Table 4 and Table 5 below.

[0225] Compare examples C1–C8

[0226] Repeat Example 1, wherein modified below. The compositions are prepared using the materials shown in Table 3. Then, as described in the above test method, the peel creep rate, peel bond strength and shear strength of the resulting laminated product are evaluated. The results are shown in Table 4 and Table 5 below.

Abstract

The present invention provides pressure sensitive adhesive compositions and articles comprising a layer of the pressure sensitive adhesive composition. The pressure sensitive adhesive composition is especially well suited for use with substrates that have been considered difficult to bond to surfaces, such as those routinely encountered in the automotive industry. For example, the pressure sensitive adhesive can be adhered to varnish coating compositions, painted surfaces, and various polymeric materials having low energy surfaces (e.g., surfaces having a surface energy of no greater than 35 dynes per centimeter) .

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention relates to adhesive compositions, in particular to pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions, and articles comprising such adhesives. Background [0002] Various adhesive compositions have been developed to bind the two substrates together to form a bonded article. Although many binder compositions are known, the availability of new substrates that need to be bonded together and the requirements of new end uses continue to drive demand for new binder compositions and new binder articles. In addition to performance requirements, factors such as environmental management and processing costs can influence formulation requirements. For example, there is a minimization of the amount of organic solvent used in the production of adhesive compositions and articles containing adhesive compositions, and adhesion to challenging surfaces such as those with low surface energy. Contents of the Invention [0003] Pressure-sensitive adhesive composit...
