Embodiment Construction

[0130] As indicated above, the present disclosure provides a turbomachine component featuring a capture coating to resist spalling and provide additional cooling during operation of the turbomachine. The features of each capture coating may be configured to retain a greater amount of surface coating material than conventional structures positioned on a turbine airfoil while allowing heat to be conducted into the body of the turbine airfoil. Features of each capture coating may include, for example, a first component positioned on an outer surface of an airfoil member that may be positioned within a hot gas path (HGP) section of a turbine. The first component may include at least one outer sidewall to define a first perimeter of the feature of the capture coating. The second component may be positioned on the first component and may also include one or more outer sidewalls to define a second perimeter of the feature of the capture coating. Thus, the first component separates t...

Abstract

The invention relates to turbomachine components which include one or more coating-capturing features for thermal insulation. A turbomachine component may include: a body having an exterior surface positioned within a hot gas path (HGP) section of a turbomachine; and a coating-capturing feature mounted on the exterior surface of the body and in thermal communication with the HGP section of the turbomachine, wherein the coating-capturing feature comprises: a first member positioned on the exterior surface of the body, the first member having at least one outer sidewall defining a first perimeter of the coating-capturing feature, a second member positioned on the first member and having at least one outer sidewall defining a second perimeter of the coating-capturing feature, wherein the first member separates the second member from the exterior surface of the body, and an indentation positioned between the first and second members.

Description

[0001] Statement Regarding the Rights of the Federal Government [0002] This invention was made with Government support under Contract No. DE-FE0023965 awarded by the US Department of Energy. The government has certain rights in this invention. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to turbomachine components featuring capture coatings, and additionally to methods of forming and applying coatings on turbomachine components featuring capture coatings for thermal insulation. Background technique [0004] Conventional fabrication of metal components generally involves sawing or cutting away areas from a sheet of material, and then processing and finishing the cut material to produce a part that may have been simulated, for example, using a computer model in drafting software. Fabricated components that may be formed from metal may include, for example, airfoil components for installation in turbines, such as aircraft engines or power generation sys...
