[0076] Figure 1A An image 100 generated from thermal image data is illustrated. Thermal image data is captured by a thermal image detector. Image 100 includes first structure 112 , second structure 114 , and lake 116 . Ground 117 and sky 118 are also visible in image 100 . The second structure 114 extends above a horizon 120 in the scene. In image 100 , sky 118 is reflected in lake 116 . Features such as those within or near first structure 112, second structure 114, lake 116, an...

Abstract

A method (1300) and system (1000) for filtering thermal image data is provided. The method (1300) includes: capturing (1302) thermal image data by a thermal image detector (1110); forming (1304) a signal distribution of intensity values; identifying (1306) a first portion (220) of the signal distribution of intensity values, the first portion is a peak having an intensity width (222) equal to or less than a predetermined intensity span based on the resolution parameter of the thermal image detector; identifying (1307) a second portion (210) having an intensity width greater than the predetermined intensity span; determining (1308 ) an intensity range between the first portion and the second portion; and if the intensity range is greater than a predetermined minimum intensity range, filtering (1310) the thermal image data by excluding thermal image data of portions forming the first portion.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for filtering thermal image data and a system for filtering thermal image data. Background technique [0002] Objects with a temperature above absolute zero emit thermal radiation. The intensity and spectral content of the emitted radiation varies with the temperature of the object. In general, the intensity of the emitted radiation increases as the temperature of the object increases. [0003] Thermal imaging systems utilize thermal sensors such as microbolometers to visualize thermal differences within a scene by converting detected thermal energy into electrical energy to produce an image or video of the scene. Furthermore, the use of thermal imaging systems is advantageous when objects in a scene can be detected with or without illumination in the scene, compared to imaging systems utilizing visible light. Thermal imaging systems can further alleviate problems associated with complex light conditions, su...
