Embodiment Construction

[0037] Embodiments disclosed herein relate to devices and methods for monitoring and processing biological tissue with substrates implementing sensors. Embodiments disclosed herein are not limited to treating or monitoring a particular type of tissue or wound, and indeed, the sensor-implementing techniques disclosed herein are broadly applicable to any type of treatment that may benefit from a sensor-implementing substrate. Some embodiments utilize sensors and data acquisition that healthcare providers rely on to make diagnoses and make patient management decisions. International Patent Application No. PCT / IB2017 / 000693, published on May 5, 2017 and published as WO 2017 / 195038 entitled "SENSOR ENABLED NEGATIVE PRESSURE WOUNDTHERAPY APPARATUS", describes the use of dressings for the treatment of wounds, for example in combination with negative pressure wound therapy Various exemplary embodiments and features of sensors, devices, systems, and methods, the entire contents of whic...

Abstract

Embodiments of apparatuses, systems, methods for monitoring wound pH are disclosed. In some embodiments, a wound dressing includes one or more optical sensors configured to measure a change in color of a pH-sensitive adhesive that changes color in response to changes in wound exudate pH. In some embodiments, the wound dressing may further comprise hydrophilic channels that direct wound exudate toa pH-sensitive material over the optical sensors. Such dressings may also be used in combination with a negative pressure wound therapy system.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 564,126, entitled "PH SENSING FOR SENSOR ENABLED NEGATIVE PRESSURE WOUND MONITORING AND THERAPY APPARATUSES," filed September 27, 2017; the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] Embodiments described herein relate to devices, systems, and methods for monitoring or treating wounds, eg, using dressings that sense the pH of the wound. Background technique [0004] The treatment of open or chronic wounds that are too large to close spontaneously or otherwise fail to heal by applying negative pressure to the wound site is well known in the art. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) systems currently known in the art typically involve placing a fluid-impermeable or semi-permeable covering over the wound, using various means to seal the covering to the patient's tissue surrounding the wound ...
