Negative pressure wound treatment dressing

A wound treatment dressing for applying negative pressure wound therapy to a wound of an extremity, such as on the heel of a foot. The dressing comprises a fluid manifold 14 positioned within a fenestrated drape 16 to form a contoured occlusive wrapping 10 for placement over a wound on an extremity. A contoured porous pad 26 is placed adjacent or within the wound, such that the contoured pad 26 is enveloped by the occlusive wrapping 10. Flexible tubing 42 is attached to or through a fluid communication port 18, which forms an opening to the outer layer 16b of the occlusive wrapping 10, so as to allow for fluid communication of negative pressure to the contoured pad 26 from a source of negative pressure 44 connected to an opposite end of the flexible tubing 42. The negative gauge pressure is communicated from the source 44, through the tube 42, through the fenestrations 19 of the occlusive wrapping 10, such that negative gauge pressure is applied to the wound on the extremity. The fluid manifold 14 serves to direct the negative pressure from a position away from the wound site to the contoured pad 26 at the wound site.

Method and Apparatus for Bridging From a Dressing in Negative Pressure Wound Therapy

A method of bridging from a wound dressing to a wound port for negative pressure wound therapy includes positioning an elongate wick between a wound and a remote location with respect to the wound. The elongate wick includes a three-dimensional spacer fabric having an upper fabric layer spaced from a lower fabric layer by an intermediate layer of pile threads. The elongate wick is covered with a flexible wick cover such that an enclosure is formed around the elongate wick. A substantially fluid-tight seal is established between a first end of the elongate wick cover and the wound dressing such that a reservoir is defined over the wound in which a negative pressure may be maintained. A substantially fluid-tight seal is established between a second end of the elongate wick cover and a fluid port configured for connection to a source of negative pressure.

Detachable pump and the negative pressure wound therapy system using the same

The present invention relates to a detachable pump and a negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) system using the same. The detachable pump comprises: a top module, including a motor set and a top elastic member; and a bottom module, arranged beneath the top module in a manner that it is connected to the top module by a detachable connection mechanism and comprised of: a base configured with an inlet and an outlet; at least an one-way suction valve; at least an one-way drain valve; a diaphragm element; and a bottom elastic member. With the aforesaid system, spent liquid can be prevented from flowing back to a wound section or the base by the cooperation of the suction valve and the drain valve as the top elastic member is configured to be pushed by the motor set for enabling the resulting resilience of the top elastic member to counter with the resilience of the bottom elastic member in a manner that the diaphragm element is propelled for enabling the detachable pump to generate a vacuuming force. By incorporating the aforesaid detachable pump into a NPWT system along with dressings and absorbent materials, spent liquid of a wound is drawn by the pump to be absorbed directly by the absorbent materials by way of the dressings so that not only the piping length and the volume of the NPWT system are reduced, but also the power requirement of the pump is decreased.
