[0022] I. Mobile Processing Platform

[0023] figure 1 A system architecture is shown for an exemplary mobile processing platform 100 according to some implementations. The mobile processing platform 100 includes a processing mechanism 110 , a camera 120 , a transport mechanism 130 configured to move the entire platform 100 through a field, and a computer 140 . Although only a single instance of these elements are shown and described, in practice platform 100 may contain more than one of each such element.

[0024] As the treatment platform 100 is moved across the field, the treatment mechanism 110 applies treatments to the plants in the field. For example, treatment mechanism 110 may include one or more sprayers and one or more containers containing treatment liquid to be applied to plants via treatment mechanism 110 . Fluid treatments may include, but are not limited to, fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, repellents, and growth regulators. Treatment mecha...

Abstract

A plant treatment platform uses a plant detection model to detect plants as the plant treatment platform travels through a field. The plant treatment platform receives image data from a camera that captures images of plants (e.g., crops or weeds) growing in the field. The plant treatment platform applies pre-processing functions to the image data to prepare the image data for processing by the plant detection model. For example, the plant treatment platform may reformat the image data, adjust the resolution or aspect ratio, or crop the image data. The plant treatment platform applies the plantdetection model to the pre-processed image data to generate bounding boxes for the plants. The plant treatment platform then can apply treatment to the plants based on the output of the machine-learned model.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 503,770, filed May 9, 2017, and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 580,290, filed November 1, 2017, the contents of each of which are adopted by This reference is incorporated herein in its entirety. Background technique [0003] Traditional systems for treating crops in the field apply treatment broadly to all plants in the field, or to entire areas of plants in the field. For example, a plant treatment system may use a sprayer that uniformly treats all plants in a field or area with the same treatment, regardless of individual plants. These systems have significant disadvantages. A major disadvantage in the case of spray-type treatments is that the traditional free application of the treatment liquid over the entire area or field leads to significant waste. Especially with respect to fertilizer treatment, overtreatment of nitro...
