Embodiment 1

[0037] Embodiment 1: An end tank assembly for an engine exhaust aftertreatment cylinder, the end tank assembly includes:

[0038] an end can comprising an end plate and a wall extending from a periphery of the end plate, the end plate and the wall having a first cutout formed therein;

[0039] a tube provided in the first cutout and attached to the end tank around the first cutout so as to form a seal with the end tank, the tube including at least one portion removed therefrom to define therein at least one opening leading to the interior of the end tank assembly; and

[0040] a bracket comprising a plate and a shoulder extending at an angle from the plate, the bracket is attached to the end plate and to the wall, the shoulder has a second cutout formed therein, the The second cutout is shaped to receive the tube whereby the shoulder abuts the tube.

Embodiment 2

[0041] Embodiment 2: The assembly of Embodiment 1, wherein the tube extends partially across the end plate whereby the shoulder is adjacent to the tube adjacent an end of the tube received in the end can.

Embodiment 3

[0042] Embodiment 3: The assembly of Embodiment 2, wherein the end of the tube comprises an open end.

Abstract

An end can assembly (14) for an engine exhaust aftertreatment canister (10) comprises an end can (30) formed from an end plate (36) and a wall (38) extending from a periphery of the end plate, the endplate and the wall having a first cutaway portion (40) formed therein. A pipe (32) is provided in the first cutaway portion and attached to the end can around the first cutaway portion to form a sealwith the end can, the pipe having at least one opening (48) provided therein which opens into an interior of the end can assembly. A bracket (34), comprising a plate (42) and a shoulder (44) extending at an angle from the plate, is attached to the end plate (36) and to the wall (38), the shoulder (44) having a second cutaway portion (46) formed therein which is shaped to receive the pipe (32) whereby the shoulder abuts the pipe and provides structural support to the pipe and end can.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to an engine exhaust aftertreatment system, in particular to an end tank assembly for an engine exhaust aftertreatment cylinder. Background technique [0002] Engine exhaust aftertreatment systems are used to reduce emissions in the exhaust stream of internal combustion engines. Such aftertreatment systems typically include several aftertreatment devices, such as particulate filters and catalytic converters. The aftertreatment device is typically located in a housing or canister through which the exhaust gas flows. End caps are mounted on each end of the barrel. Each end cap has a tube that acts as an inlet or an outlet, depending on which end of the barrel the end cap is mounted to. [0003] Emission regulations are increasingly stringent on engine emissions. To meet new emissions requirements, manufacturers may be faced with the need to provide aftertreatment devices in existing engine designs or to provide higher performanc...
