Abstract

The present invention relates to scheduling and managing network probes using a centralized controller. In general, this disclosure describes techniques for measuring edge-based quality of experience (QoE) metrics. For example, a network device may construct a topological representation of a network that includes an indication of nodes within the network and links connecting the nodes. For each link, the network device may select one of the two node devices connected by the corresponding link to measure one or more QoE metrics of the corresponding link, wherein the non-selected node devices do not measure the QoE metric . In response to selecting the selected node device, the network device may receive a set of one or more QoE metrics for corresponding links of data flows flowing from the selected node device to the non-selected node device. The network device may store the QoE metric and determine a relative QoE metric for a data flow flowing from the non-elected node device to the selected node device.
