Abstract

The invention provides a target tracking system and method. The target tracking system comprises an image processing unit and a target tracking unit. The target tracking unit reads the brightness, chromaticity and sharpness of each frame of image counted by the image processing unit, or based on the counted chromaticity and the brightness of each frame of image, adjusts the updating speed of the target tracking parameter according to the calculated current motion information of the tracking target, and judges whether the tracking characteristics used by the target tracking method need to be switched or not according to the statistical information of the image processing unit; and if so, the target tracking unit reads sharpness information of the image acquired by the image processing unitto switch the tracking features, so that the robustness and the accuracy of target tracking are improved through the combination of the image processing unit and the target tracking unit.
