Embodiment Construction

[0045] Referring now to the accompanying drawings, in particular figure 1 , shows a peritoneal dialysis ("PD") system 10a. PD system 10a includes a disposable kit 20a that is operated by a PD cycler 50a. Cycler 50a includes a housing 52a, which may be made of metal, plastic, or a combination thereof. In the illustrated embodiment, the front of the housing 52a includes a hinged door 54 ( figure 2 ) and user interface 56. User interface 56 may include a touch screen overlay and / or one or more electromechanical buttons 58, such as membrane switches, each operable with control unit 60 to enable a user to enter commands into cycler 10a. The control unit 60 as shown includes one or more processors 62 and one or more memories 64 . The user interface 56 can be connected with one or more video cards 66 and sound cards 68 to provide video and sound on the user interface respectively, and is controlled by the control unit 60 . The cycler 10a may further include a backup battery 70...

Abstract

A peritoneal dialysis system includes a circulator having a housing, a pump housed by the housing, a fill valve housed by the housing, a drain valve housed by the housing, and a disposable kit; the pump includes an actuator and first and second valves located on both sides of the actuator; the disposable kit includes a patient line configured to be positioned and arranged to operate with the pumpactuator and the first and second valves, a fill line configured to be positioned and arranged to operate with the fill valve, and a discharge line configured to be positioned and arranged to operatewith the discharge valve.

Description

[0001] field of invention [0002] The present invention generally relates to medical fluidic devices. More specifically, the present invention relates to peritoneal dialysis devices. Background technique [0003] A person's kidney system can fail for various reasons. Renal failure produces several physiological disturbances. It is impossible to rebalance water and minerals, or to excrete the daily metabolic load. Toxic end products of metabolism, such as urea, creatinine, uric acid, etc., may accumulate in the patient's blood and tissues. [0004] Dialysis is used to treat reduced kidney function, especially kidney failure. Dialysis removes waste, toxins and excess water from the body as the normally functioning kidneys remove. Dialysis treatment to replace kidney function is vital for many people because the treatment is life-saving. [0005] One type of kidney failure therapy is hemodialysis ("HD"), which typically uses an osmotic gradient to remove waste products fro...
