Abstract

Provided are a wavelength conversion element, a method for manufacturing the same, a light source device, and a projector, wherein the utilization efficiency of fluorescence is excellent. This wavelength conversion element is provided with: a substrate; a color separation layer disposed on the first surface of the substrate; an intermediate layer provided so as to face the substrate with the color separation layer interposed therebetween; and a wavelength conversion layer that is provided so as to face the color separation layer with the intermediate layer interposed therebetween and converts light of the first wavelength band into light of the second wavelength band. The color separation layer has two or more refractive index layers. The refractive index of the wavelength conversion layer is nm, the refractive index of the intermediate layer is nLm, the refractive index of the refractive index layer having the first refractive index among two or more refractive index layers is nL, and the refractive index of the refractive index layer having the second refractive index among two or more refractive index layers is nH. When nH is greater than nL, theta B >= theta C is satisfied with respect to theta B obtained by the following formula (1) and theta C obtained by the following formula (2) (shown in the description).
