Embodiment Construction

[0066] Referring to the drawings, there are shown some different embodiments of a fuel container 99 having a body 3 defining an internal volume 71 for receiving and storing fuel. figure 1 The body 3 of the container shown is substantially cuboid. Some of the embodiments shown in the figures are formed from a strong rigid thermoplastic material formed by a blow molding process.

[0067] One end 66 of the handle 5 is connected with the body 3 , and the other end 67 of the handle is connected with the neck 4 . The shape of the handle 5 enables the user to hold the hand tightly around the handle when carrying the container.

[0068] In some embodiments, the handle 5 is hollow and defines a fluid passage for the gas expansion volume, which may typically be between 10% and 15% of the internal volume of the container.

[0069] The inlet 1 is defined at the end of a neck 4 extending upwards and away from the body 3 of the fuel container 99 at an angle between 35° and 75° relative to...

Abstract

A fuel container comprises: a body defining a volume for receiving fuel. The body has an inlet and optionally a vent. The inlet extends upwards as a spout and has a threaded collar which is closed by a threaded cap. A gas expansion pathway is provided between the inlet and the vent. The spout has a guide for receiving and locating a dog-leg portion of a fuel dispenser nozzle. A restriction in the throat of the spout prevents the fuel dispenser nozzle being inserted beyond a preselected distance into the container thereby preventing backwash and spillage.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a fuel container, tank or cartridge, hereinafter referred to as a fuel container. In particular, the invention relates to a fuel container for storing and dispensing gasoline, diesel or similar liquid fuels. More particularly, the present invention relates to portable fuel containers which, when full, typically hold from 5 liters to 25 liters of liquid fuel. Background technique [0002] Fuel backflow or backflushing occurs when there is an air lock in the fuel container when filling the fuel container and can cause spillage. This problem is exacerbated at higher flow rates. Therefore, when dispensing into fuel tanks or containers, automatic fuel pumps dispensing liquid fuel need to be operated carefully and at low speeds to avoid fuel backflow or kickback. This caused the user to spend longer than expected at the fuel dispensing pump. [0003] Filling liquid fuel containers is often problematic because the user is ...
