The method comprises the following steps: collecting transient temperature data of an equivalent body in a measured environment; establishing a correlation model of the equivalent body temperature parameters and the parameters of the environment where the overhead conductor is located; using the transient temperature data and the correlation model to calculate measured environment parameters; the equivalent body and the overhead conductor are placed in the same measured environment; and calculating the current-carrying capacity of the overhead conductor by using the measured environmental parameters and the conductor heat balance equation. The equivalent body is arranged in the environment where the overhead conductor is located, the measured environment parameters are calculated by collecting the temperature data of the equivalent body, and the current-carrying capacity of the overhead conductor is finally calculated, so that the current-carrying capacity of the overhead conductor can be accurately calculated without directly monitoring the overhead conductor or arranging a sensor; the method has the advantages of low cost, high precision and easy implementation.
