FIG. 1A shows that the conductive terminal 52 is insulated from the metal container wall 56 by a layer 54 of non-conductive bonding material. Layer 54 is bonded with ceramic fusion, glass fusion or epoxy. Due to such a construction, there is no permanent compressive force between the non-conductive material and the terminal, and earth leakage protection relies on the adhesive properties of the material. In addition, the insertion process of non-conductive materials is very expensive. It is also difficult to apply a non-conductive material uniformly around the terminal without creating air bubbles that impair adhesion and hermetic seals.
