Embodiment Construction

[0022] The embodiments of the present invention and the examples shown in the drawings will now be described in detail. It goes without saying that the drawings and description of the present invention include some elements shown and described in this specification that are particularly related to the present invention. For the sake of clarity, some elements that can be found in general engines and engine control systems are deleted.

[0023] When these elements are used in connection with the present invention, the terms "fine-tuning" or "trimming", "group", "fine-tuning accuracy" and "mapping set" have specific meanings. The terms "fine-tuning" and "trimming" refer to changing the value of one or more image setting points or transitional operating parameters. This may be positive or negative. The change value can be a function of the original value or the selected increment. The wording "group" refers to the set or part of the set points or transition operation parameters that p...

Abstract

An apparatus and method for adjusting a quantity of fuel delivered to an engine when an engine operating state transitions is provided. The apparatus and method includes determining a current steady-state quantity of fuel to be delivered to the engine and add a transitory quantity of fuel, based on a difference between a previous steady-state quantity of fuel delivered and the current steady-state quantity of fuel to be delivered, to the current steady-state quantity of fuel for a period of time following initiation of the transition. The invention also provides an apparatus and method by which an operator may adjust the amount of fuel delivered during an engine operating state transition.

Description

[0001] Related application [0002] This application is a continuation of the U.S Patent Application (U.S Patent Application) No. 09 / 784336 filed on February 16, 2001, which is currently under review and assigned to the assignee of the present invention. Therefore, the earlier co-applied patent applications mentioned above are specifically listed as references. Technical field [0003] The present invention is directed to an engine fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine. In particular, the present invention is directed to a system and method for compensating for changes in the operating state of an engine by changing the value of operating parameters such as the amount of fuel to be supplied. Background technique [0004] It is believed that the performance of an internal combustion engine depends on the operating cycle (e.g., two-stroke with a crankshaft rotation of 360 degrees per cycle, a four-stroke or Wankel engine with a crankshaft rotation of 720 degrees per c...
