Embodiment Construction

[0023] Please refer first to Fig. 1A-1D, they have shown the pattern 100 of the pulse position 110 of the digital pulse position modulation (PPM) method of conventional prior art, wherein, data is positioned at a certain pulse position in four pulse positions 110 Pulse 120 is encoded. To help better understand the invention, a brief introduction to PPM is helpful.

[0024] A conventional PPM provides a data stream to be split into individual sample values, and then a single pulse 120 is used to transmit one sample value. Figures 1A-1D show four possible values, or pulse positions 110, of a pulse 120 within a discrete time span. The four pulse positions 110 can also be considered to be in a set of four time slots.

[0025] Data or information in samples is transmitted by varying the position of pulses 120 in groups of time slots over discrete time spans. The entire data stream is transmitted using a series of pulse position 110 transmissions. A single pulse 120 in successiv...

Abstract

A method of data transmission is provided, characterized in that a variant of pulse position modulation is used by introducing a phase shift between pulses in adjacent pulse positions (which can serve as a better parameter that distinguishes two highly overlapping pulses) while allowing a high degree of overlap between pulses, so that, on the one hand, more than one pulse position is allowed to be active per time interval, thus increasing the number of possible combinations and thus increasing Larger the number of bits that can be encoded per time interval, on the other hand shortens the time interval for a given number of pulse positions. Embodiments of the provided method take into account the possibility of limiting the potentially simultaneously active pulse positions to non-adjacent positions with distances that can be a function of the phase difference as previously described.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to propagated signals and, in particular, to propagated signals modulated by combining multiple pulse per group modulation with simultaneous phase shift and time shift modulation. Background technique [0002] Electronic data transmission requires some form of signal modulation, which encodes data into an information-bearing signal so that the signal can travel through the transmission medium, and demodulation to recover exactly the originally encoded data. Modulation can be thought of as the process by which digital data, voice, music, and other "intelligence signals" are added to radio waves produced by a transmitter so that the intelligence signal is in a form suitable for transmission. Modulation can also be thought of as adding information to an electrical or optical signal carrier in a manner that allows encoded data to be reliably decoded. Modulation can be applied to DC (mainly by switching on and off), ...
