A method of manufacturing a bottle type can having a neck part, a shoulder part, and a body part formed integrally with each other, comprising the step s of punching, to form in a cup shape, a coated metal sheet having the both surfaces thereof formed with thermoplastic resin coating layer and coated wi th lubricant, forming a cup-shaped can further to a bottomed cylindrical can having the body part with small diameter and thin wall, forming the bottom side of the bottomed cylindrical can into the shoulder part and an unopened neck part, removing lubricant at least from the outer surface of the can wit h the unopened neck part and opened lower end of the body part, applying print design to the outer surface of the body part from which lubricant was remove d, and, after cutting, to open, the tip part of the unopened neck part, forming the cut end part to a curl part and also forming a thread part at a position lower than the curl part, whereby a protective film can be provided uniforml y on the metallic surface of the can, and a print for decoration can be provid ed satisfactorily on the outer surface of the body part of the can, and a conventional transfer device by a vacuum and pressurized air injection mechanism can be diverted to a device for handling the can in the printing step.
