[0039] figure 1 and figure 2 The elements of an automated chemical analyzer 10 are shown together in a schematic manner, including: a reaction carousel 12 supporting an outer test tube carousel 14 having test tube sockets 20 formed therein and an inner test tube having test tube sockets 22 formed therein Turntable 16, outer layer test tube turntable 14 and inner layer test tube turntable 16 are separated by open groove 18. The test tube socket 20 is used to accommodate a plurality of reaction test tubes 24, such as the reaction test tubes disclosed in the co-pending patent application serial no. Various reagents and sample liquids; and the container port 22 is used to accommodate a plurality of reaction containers 25 containing reagents dedicated to ultra-high sensitivity luminescent immunoassays. The reaction turntable 12 rotates in a constant direction in a step-by-step cyclical motion, and the step motion is separated by a constant residence time. During the residence ti...

Abstract

An automated analyzer for analyzing patient samples. The analyzer includes a plurality of cuvettes, which allow the samples to be mixed with various reagents. The analyzer includes one or more detectors, including a detector adapted to detect luminescence of the reaction mixture in the cuvettes. The analyzer allows for various diagnostic assays to be performed on a single system, and provides for high-sensitivity analysis at faster speeds.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Patent Application No. 60 / 488,336, filed July 18,2003. field of invention [0003] The present invention relates to a device for automatically processing patient biological fluid samples, such as urine, serum, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid and the like. In particular, the present invention provides an automated system having a plurality of detectors that analyze a sample according to one or more detection protocols. Background of the invention [0004] By analyzing samples taken from patients for infection, bodily fluids, or abscesses, various types of tests can be performed that are relevant to patient diagnosis and treatment. These tests typically involve automated analyzers loaded with test tubes containing patient samples. The analyzer draws a sample from a test tube and mixes it with various reagents in specialized reaction tubes or vials. Subsequently, the samples are incubated or otherwise pro...
