Problems solved by technology

The advantage of using such an ultra-high impedance input bias circuit is that optimum noise performance of the microphone is obtained, but it leads to the disadvantage that in response to transient voltage spikes at the Response, with this slow microphone sensitivity reduction characteristic
Clearly, therefore, sensitivity restoration time constants on the order of about 0.2dB per minute can introduce significant and possibly serious performance limitations for directional hearing aids

Abstract

A reset circuit apparatus is used with a buffer amplifier circuit to provide a low impedance shunt for improving the settling characteristics of buffer amplifiers, particularly as used with miniatureelectret microphones. The reset circuit comprises a detector and is coupled to a switch. The switch is activated when the detector is triggered by predetermined operating conditions. The switch activates a ramp generator for providing a delay signal of a predetermined period to a shunt or reset device coupled to the input of a buffer amplifier. A method for performing the reset function is also discussed and described.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 60 / 510,936, filed October 14, 2003, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety for all purposes. technical field [0002] This invention relates to buffer amplifiers, and more particularly to reset circuits for buffer amplifiers such as those used in miniature electret microphones. Background technique [0003] Hearing aids have greatly contributed to improving the quality of life of many individuals with hearing problems. Technological advances in this field continue to improve hearing aid reception, wearing comfort, longevity, and power efficiency. As the performance of ear-worn acoustic devices continues to advance, so does the need to improve the intrinsic performance of the miniature acoustic transducers used in these acoustic devices. [0004] FIG. 1 shows a representative high-level block diagram of a hearing aid 1 . Generally speaking, the hearing aid 1 comprises ...
