Non-volatile memory and method with improved sensing

A method for reducing source line bias is accomplished by read / write circuits with features and techniques for multi-pass sensing. When a page of memory cells are being sensed in parallel, each pass helps to identify and shut down the memory cells with conduction current higher than a given demarcation current value. In particular, the identified memory cells are shut down after all sensing in the current pass have been completed. In this way the shutting down operation does not disturb the sensing operation. Sensing in subsequent passes will be less affected by source line bias since the total amount of current flow is significantly reduced by eliminating contributions from the higher current cells. In another aspect of sensing improvement, a reference sense amplifier is employed to control multiple sense amplifiers to reduce their dependence on power supply and environmental variations.

System and method for accelerating graphics processing using a post-geometry data stream during multiple-pass rendering

A system and method are provided for accelerating graphics processing utilizing multiple-pass rendering. Initially, geometry operations are performed on graphics data, and the graphics data is stored in memory. During a first rendering pass, various operations take place. For example, the graphics data is read from the memory, and the graphics data is rasterized. Moreover, first z-culling operations are performed utilizing the graphics data. Such first z-culling operations maintain a first occlusion image. During a second rendering pass, the graphics data is read from memory. Still yet, the graphics data is rasterized and second z-culling operations are performed utilizing the graphics data and the first occlusion image. Moreover, visibility operations are performed utilizing the graphics data and a second occlusion image. Raster-processor operations are also performed utilizing the graphics data, during the second rendering pass.

Multipass parametric or graphic EQ fitting

Multiple passes are executed in the setup of an equalizer, and modification of the equalization is performed after each pass of an analysis phase. After an initial pass, the equalization is adjusted, based upon the location of peaks and valleys in the system response. This initial adjustment of equalization may tend to flatten most of the peaks and valleys to produce the desired uniform linear response. Inexact application of equalization corrections may introduce other artifacts into the system response and / or may not sufficiently normalize equalization. A second pass is then performed to measure the system response using the new equalization settings. The new peaks and valleys are measured, and the equalization adjusted to try to flatten response further. A proximity range may be applied to each pass, to reduce the likelihood that adjustment of one equalizer coefficient will create artifacts in the resulting system response.

Camera-based document scanning system using multiple-pass mosaicking

A camera-based document scanning system produces electronic versions of documents, based on a plurality of images of discrete portions of the documents. The system compares each pair of consecutive images and derives motion parameters that indicate the relative motion between each pair of consecutive images. The system utilizes the derived motion parameters to align and merge each image with respect to the previous images, thereby building a single, mosaic image of the document. In the illustrative embodiment, the motion parameters are derived by minimizing a sum of squared differences equation on a pixel-by-pixel basis.

Physical resynthesis of a logic design

A multiple-pass synthesis technique improves the performance of a design. In a specific embodiment, synthesis is performed in two or more passes. In a first pass, a first synthesis is performed, and in a second or subsequent pass, a second synthesis or resynthesis is performed. During the first synthesis, the logic will be mapped to for example, the logic structures (e.g., logic elements, LUTs, synthesis gates) of the target technology such as a programmable logic device. Alternatively a netlist may be provided from a third party. Before the second synthesis, a fast or abbreviated fit may be performed of the netlist to a specific device (e.g., specific programmable logic device product). Before the second synthesis, the netlist obtained from the first synthesis (or provided by a third party) is unmapped and then the second synthesis is performed. Since a partial fit is performed, the second synthesis has more visibility and optimize the logic better than by using a single synthesis pass. After the second synthesis pass, a more detailed fit is performed.

Minimization of FG-FG coupling in flash memory

Multiple passes of the loop of program verify and programming steps are performed for minimizing the effects of FG—FG coupling during programming a flash memory device. In one embodiment of the present invention, for programming a group of at least one flash memory cell of an array, a first pass of program verify and programming steps is performed until each flash memory cell of the group attains a threshold voltage that is at least X % of a program verify level but less than the program verify level. Then, a second pass of program verify and programming steps are performed until each flash memory cell of the group attains substantially the program verify level for the threshold voltage.

Function-level just-in-time translation engine with multiple pass optimization

A JIT binary translator translates code at a function level of the source code rather than at an opcode level. The JIT binary translator of the invention grabs an entire x86 function out of the source stream, rather than an instruction, translates the whole function into an equivalent function of the target processor, and executes that function all at once before returning to the source stream, thereby reducing context switching. Also, since the JIT binary translator sees the entire source code function context at once the software emulator may optimize the code translation. For example, the JIT binary translator might decide to translate a sequence of x86 instructions into an efficient PPC equivalent sequence. Many such optimizations result in a tighter emulated binary.

Creating optimized physical implementations from high-level descriptions of electronic design using placement-based information

An electronic design automation system provides optimization of RTL models of electronic designs, to produce detailed constraints and data precisely defining the requirements for the back-end flows leading to design fabrication. The system takes a RTL model of an electronic design and maps it into an efficient, high level hierarchical representation of the hardware implementation of the design. Automatic partitioning partitions the hardware representation into functional partitions, and creates a fully characterized performance envelope for a range of feasible implementations for each of the partitions, using accurate placement based wire load models. Chip-level optimization selects and refines physical implementations of the partitions to produce compacted, globally routed floorplans. Chip-level optimization iteratively invokes re-partitioning passes to refine the partitions and to recompute the feasible implementations. In this fashion, a multiple-pass process converges on an optimal selection of physical implementations for all partitions for the entire chip that meet minimum timing requirements and other design goals. The system outputs specific control and data files which thoroughly define the implementation details of the design through the entire back-end flow process, thereby guaranteeing that the fabricated design meets all design goals without costly and time consuming design iterations.

3D projection with image recording

An apparatus and method for recording an image on the surface of a 3D object uses a laser projector that scans a light beam over the surface in an image pattern. The projector operates in a template imaging mode and an image recording mode where the beam scans at a speed that in a single pass / scan mode is typically four to five orders of magnitude slower than in the template imaging mode. A layer of a photosensitive material is applied to the surface of the object either partially or fully. Projection in the template imaging mode can guide the applying. The layer is substantially insensitive to ambient light for at least a period of time necessary to perform a desired processing step on the object. The layer has a maximum spectral sensitivity in the vicinity of the wavelength of the laser light beam. In one or multiple passes of the beam over the image pattern operating in the image record mode, the accumulated light energy dose density is sufficient to react the material and record the image.

Methods for variable multi-pass servowriting and self-servowriting

The amount of position error written into a servo burst pattern can be reduced by using additional media revolutions to write the pattern. Where the edges of two servo bursts are used to define a position on the media, trimming the first burst and writing the second burst on separate revolutions will result in a different amount of position error being written into each burst. The end result will be a reduction in the overall error in position information. In order to further reduce the position error given by a burst pair, each burst also can be trimmed and / or written in multiple passes. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention. Other features, aspects, and objects of the invention can be obtained from a review of the specification, the figures, and the claims.
