Systems and methods for performing peritoneal dialysis

In a peritoneal dialysis embodiment of the present invention, spent dialysate from the patient's peritoneal cavity passes, along a patient loop, through a dialyzer having a membrane that separates waste components from the spent dialysate, wherein the patient loop returns fresh dialysate to the patient's peritoneal cavity. The waste components are carried away in a second regeneration loop to a regeneration unit or sorbent cartridge, which absorbs the waste components. The regeneration unit removes undesirable components in the dialysate that were removed from the patient loop by the dialyzer, for example, excess water (ultrafiltrate or UF), toxins and metabolic wastes. Desirable components can be added to the dialysate by the system, such as glucose and electrolytes. The additives assist in maintaining the proper osmotic gradients in the patient to perform dialysis and provide the necessary compounds to the patient.

Systems and methods for synchronizing time-shifted media content and related communications

A method for assigning attributes to media content. A media content is first displayed on a television, computer, or other display. A communication created by a user while viewing the media content is then received. The communication is then analyzed, and at least a portion of the communication is linked to a portion of the media content. The communication is also analyzed to identify relevant keywords which are then saved as attributes of the media content. The assigned word or phrase can be used to recommend the media content to other viewers or to find the media content in response to a search function. A method for synchronizing communications with time-shifted media content is also disclosed. A media content such as a television program is displayed during a time period other than its original broadcast time. Communications created by users while watching the media content are then received. The received communications are time-stamped so they can be synchronized with the run-time of the media content. The communications may be analyzed to select and display targeted advertising.

Multi-user wireless communication system based on both-way trunk and method thereof

The invention discloses a multi-user wireless communication system based on both-way trunk and a method thereof; the communication system comprises four multi-antenna transceivers (not only a transmitter but also a receiver) and a multi-antenna both-way trunk; each transceiver is composed of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulator, an OFDM demodulator, a memory and a self-interference eliminator; the both-way trunk is composed of an OFDM modulator, an OFDM demodulator and a beam former and is a semi-duplex amplifying transmission relay. The communication method leads a complete communication process to be finished within two time slots; in the first time slot, the four transceivers send signals to the relay at the same time, and an orthogonal frequency division multiple access is adopted as a multiple access way; in the second time slot, the relay adopts orthogonal frequency division multiplexing / space division multiplexing multiple access (OFDM / SDMA) as a multiple access way for leading received signals after being processed to be broadcasted to the four transceivers. In the invention, two multiple access ways are integrated, and relay beam forming matrixes suitable for different requirements of relay antenna number are respectively designed by adopting the two methods, thereby effectively utilizing space diversity to eliminate interference among the transceivers, and compared with the existing relay communication technology, the higher system and speed are realized.

Image registration method and system robust to noise

An image registration method is disclosed for processing a distorted image into a registered image that is aligned with reference to an original image. Distortions from the original image may include scaling, rotation, and noise. The method is based on correlating Radon transforms of both images to determine the rotation angle, and the scaling factor is determined by dividing averages of the overall luminance of each image on the assumption that any added noise will cancel. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is used to estimate global spatial shifts. In one embodiment, the distorted image is first scaled to the size of the original image before being rotated. In another embodiment, the original image is first scaled to the size of the distorted image before rotating the distorted image, and finally scaling it to match the original image. A corresponding system for image registration is also provided.

Methods and systems of predicting fatigue life in aluminum castings that combines extreme values of both casting flaws and microstructures with multiscale life models. The multiscale life models account for differing fatigue crack initiation based on the size scale of the defect and microstructure features, including provisions for generally millimeter scale casting flaws, generally micrometer scale second phase particles by cracking or debonding, or submicrometer scale dislocation interactions with precipitates which form persistent slip bands. In the presence of casting flaws, the fatigue initiation life is negligible and the total fatigue life is spent in propagation of a fatigue crack from such flaws. In the absence of casting flaws, however, the total fatigue life is spent in both crack initiation and propagation, except for the case where fatigue cracks initiate from large second phase particles in a coarse microstructure. The extreme values of casting flaws, second phase particles, mean free path through an aluminum matrix or grain sizes are obtained from extreme value statistics when two or three dimensional sizes of casting flaws and microstructure features are provided by either direct measurement or analytical prediction. The upper bound flaw or microstructure feature size is calculated by extreme value statistics.

Method for designing reflecting surface assisted device-to-device communication system

The invention belongs to the technical field of wireless communication, and particularly relates to a design method of a reflecting surface assisted device-to-device communication system. The scheme of the invention is as follows: a base station receives useful signals from cellular users and interference signals from D2D sending equipment multiplexing the same frequency band; and the D2D receiving equipment receives the useful signals from the corresponding D2D sending equipment and the interference signals from the cellular users sharing the same frequency band. According to the invention, the pairing scheme of the D2D pair and the cellular user is determined through a heuristic method, and the sending power of the D2D link and the cellular link and the passive beamforming of the reflecting surface are optimized in a combined manner, so that the maximization of the system sum rate is realized under the condition of meeting the communication rate requirements of the D2D user and the cellular user. Through simulation verification, under the conditions that normal communication of a traditional cellular system is not affected and energy, frequency spectrum and cost expenditure are not additionally increased, the system sum rate is greatly increased, and the method has very high application value and development potential.
