321 results about "Nightlight" patented technology

A nightlight is a small light fixture, usually electrical, placed for comfort or convenience in dark areas or areas that may become dark at certain times, such as at night or in an emergency. Small long-burning candles serving a similar function are referred to as "tealights".

Anti-carcinogenic lights and lighting

Devices and methods for using visible light of wavelengths between 760 to 610 nanometers, here termed Anti-Carcinogenic™ or CancerSafe™ or CancerGuard™ light. When irradiated upon animals during their customary sleeping hours, or when they are sleepy, or have been sleeping, Anti-Carcinogenic™ night light does not disrupt the hormonal secretions of the pineal gland. Conventional light, associated with pollution of the sky and urban areas, disrupts hormonal secretions, and much evidence points to hormonal secretion disruptions as a cause of cancer. The novel Night Lights can illuminate areas adjacent bedrooms, dormitories, and in vehicles, buses, aircraft, where passengers customarily sleep, and in refrigerators, and on illuminated clocks and watches. These Night Lights can have back-up power supply and employ motion sensors and photoelectric switches to switch on Anti-Carcinogenic™ (non-carcinogenic) illumination when needed for safe movement in otherwise darkened areas, and can detect power failures, noises indicative of violence, such as panics, school shootings, cries for help in medical emergencies, or assaults, and also detect dangerous, toxic, or explosive substances, including particulates, bacteria, viruses, thereupon they communicate alarms by sound, optical cable, laser, or radio frequency. Also covered are devices converting conventional carcinogenic night lights to Anti-Carcinogenic™ ones, and translucent window drapes and light traps to convert other light sources to Anti-Carcinogenic™ light.

Nightlight, led power supply circuit, and combination thereof

In one embodiment, the present invention pertains to a night light assembly which plugs directly into an electrical wall receptacle to provide a beam of light that can be directed along different paths. The assembly comprises a housing having a plug with projecting blade contacts for insertion into a wall receptacle and a light sensor for automatically controlling the activation and de-activation of the lamp of the nightlight. A cover member rotatably supported by the housing includes a lens, a low wattage lamp, a support member, and a lamp retaining member. The low wattage lamp in the cover assembly is coupled, via sliding contacts, to the blade contacts in the base housing. This arrangement allows the cover and the lamp to be rotated as a unit relative to the base housing without limitation. The lamp retaining member is non-rotatably coupled to the cover and is rotatably engaged by a retaining member fixed to the housing member. The longitudinal axis of the low wattage lamp located in the lamp retaining member is aligned along the rotational axis of the lens in the cover to permit both direct and reflected light to pass through the lens in the cover without being obstructed by the base of the lamp. The disclosed assemblage is a new improved nightlight of simple design which provides increased light and can be manufactured and sold at relatively low cost. The low wattage lamp used in the nightlight can be either an incandescent bulb or a light emitting diode (LED) such as an ultrabright white LED either as a single bulb or a cluster of 2 or more bulbs. A photo sensitive circuit can be provided to automatically energize the incandescent bulb or the LED during low light conditions. When an LED is use as the light source, the LED is energized by a new improved power supply that is both simple in design and more efficient in operation than the standard power supply circuit used for LED's.

Nightlight for phototherapy

A nightlight provides therapeutic effects on the human body and mind including promoting relaxation, sleep and wakefulness. The nightlight includes a housing, a light source, a central processor, one or more controls, and a power supply. The light source produces at least three illumination modes having various light properties. The light modes include a sleep readiness mode, a sleep help mode and a wake-up mode. The sleep readiness mode produces light at about 40 lumens and preferably includes only light from the blue and yellow portions of the visible light spectrum. The sleep help mode produces substantially monochromatic light in the blue or green spectrum. Preferably, the light undulates at a frequency of one cycle per second to one cycle per minute at a luminosity of between 5 lumens and 25 lumens, which can be selected to automatically decrease by the user. Meanwhile, the wake-up mode produces substantially full spectrum light at approximately 1,600 lumens. The controls allow a person to control the various light modes. Moreover, the nightlight may include biological sensors for measuring physiological activity of the body. The nightlight may be incorporated into a bedside alarm clock which includes numerous features found in a traditional alarm clock such as a display for displaying the time or alarm time. The alarm function may be provided by illumination of one of the three nightlight's illumination modes, which is preferably the wake up mode which may illuminate slowly or substantially immediately to full brightness.

Protective Electrical Wiring Device with a Center Nightlight

The present invention is directed to a electrical wiring device that includes a housing having a plurality of line terminals and a plurality of load terminals, the plurality of load terminals including a plurality of receptacle terminals. A cover assembly is coupled to the housing. The cover assembly includes at least one set of receptacle openings disposed on either side of a central portion of the cover assembly. Each of the at least one set of receptacle openings is in communication with a portion of the plurality of receptacle terminals. A fault detection assembly is coupled to the plurality of line terminals. The fault detection circuit is configured to provide a fault detection output in response to detecting a fault condition. A circuit interrupter is coupled between the plurality of line terminals and the plurality of load terminals. The circuit interrupter includes a first set of contacts configured to provide at least one electrically continuous path between the plurality of line terminals and the plurality of load terminals in a reset state. The first set of contacts is configured to disconnect the at least one electrically continuous path in response to the fault detection output to thereby enter a tripped state. A light assembly is coupled to the plurality of line terminals or the plurality of load terminals. The light assembly has a light transmission region disposed in the central portion and occupying a substantial portion of a width of the cover assembly. The light assembly is selectively driven from a deenergized state to a light emitting state in response to a predetermined stimulus.
