Abstract

The present invention discloses a method to start and stop relay functions of wireless relay stations in wireless communication systems. In the method, a relay station and a base station can initiate a request for starting or stopping relay functions of the relay station. Firstly, the relay station and the base station negotiate to start or stop relay functions of the relay station. The relay station determines to arrange its operating mode into relay or terminal mode according to negotiation results. Moreover, the present invention discloses a relay station, which arranges its operating mode according to received request information on starting or stopping relay functions. The present invention fulfills remote control over relay station operating state and facilitates users to control their relay stations.
