Problems solved by technology

A common problem with large stents and grafts is that self-expanding forces on the sleeve when the sleeve is initially pulled back for deployment can cause the catheter to bounce axially, causing the stent or graft to misplace away from the intended target site

Embodiment Construction

[0023] Referring initially to FIG. 1 , a percutaneous transluminal stent, stent-graft or graft delivery system is indicated generally at 10 and is used to deliver a prosthesis 12 to a target site in the vasculature, such as in the abdominal aortic artery, as described above. Aneurysm site, the purpose is to rule out the aneurysm to prevent its further bulging and possible rupture, or potential stenotic injury site of the vessel.

[0024] Vascular prosthesis 12 is preferably fabricated from a metallic fabric capable of exhibiting a self-expanded configuration and a collapsed configuration. When the prosthesis is collapsed by longitudinal expansion, it can be placed within the lumen of the catheter, advanced within the patient's vasculature to the target site, and the distal end of the catheter protrudes, at which point the prosthesis returns substantially to its expanded configuration .

Abstract

The present invention provides mechanical devices for percutaneous delivery of stents or grafts through the vasculature, as well as procedures for treating aneurysms or other damaged blood vessels. The delivery system includes an outer tubular guide catheter 20, an inner tubular delivery (push) catheter 14 coaxially disposed slidably relative to the outer guide catheter, and an elongated flexible wire or cable 26 coaxially Inserted through the lumen of the inner tubular catheter, and having a frustoconical flange attached to its distal end, when applied between this elongate bendable wire or cable 26 relative to the proximal orientation of the advancement catheter 14, The lug is sized to be at least partially insertable into the lumen of the inner pusher catheter. By inserting a compression coil spring between the proximal portion of the pusher catheter 14 and the proximal portion of the cable 26, maintaining the desired clamping force can secure the stent or graft to the distal end of the pusher catheter until the compressed spring force was removed. As the stent or graft is clamped at the distal end of the inner advancement catheter, it can be pushed and pulled within the lumen of the outer guide catheter to deliver it to the target site.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] I. CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application is a continuation-in-part of co-pending patent application Serial No. 11 / 121,386 filed May 4, 2005, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety for any purpose. [0003] II. Technical field [0004] The present invention relates generally to percutaneous transluminal vascular procedures and, more particularly, to delivery devices for placement of stents, stent-grafts or tubular grafts at desired target sites in the vasculature of a subject . [0005] III. Background technology [0006] In the field of interventional cardiology, it has become routine to treat stenotic lesions within the vasculature with balloon angioplasty to open up partially blocked vessels, and also to try to place stents across the treated lesion. straddle restenosis. [0007] Stents used in these procedures must be in a reduced diameter configuration capable of being delivered through...
