Abstract

A multi-phase process and a treatment plant for this process for removal of nitrogen and / or phosphorous from wastewater, wherein a wastewater feed is aerated and biologically processed during flow passage through aerated and non-aerated sections of a reactor. The reactor is provided with at least two inlet openings for introducing the wastewater feed and at least two outlet openings for discharging processed wastewater, spaced apart along the length of the reactor. The flow of wastewater through the reactor is performed in a substantially plug-flow manner and the introduction of wastewater feed is changed from one of the inlet openings to another of the inlet openings and vice versa, and the discharge of processed wastewater is also changed from one of the outlet openings to another of the outlet openings and vice versa. Hereby a cheaper and more effective technology for purification of wastewater is provided.
