Embodiment Construction

[0028] It should be noted that corresponding symbols used in the different figures indicate corresponding structures.

[0029] FIG. 1 shows a block diagram of an RF antenna of the present invention comprising an inductive element 102 , a preamplifier 103 , an ADC circuit 105 , an adder circuit 106 and a filter 108 . The clock rates of the ADC circuit 105 and the adder circuit 106 are synchronized to the system clock represented by arrow 107 . The outputs of ADC circuit 105 and adder circuit 106 are low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) transmitted over LVDS pipeline 109 .

[0030] This RF antenna comprises a resonant circuit formed by an inductive element 102, eg a surface coil or a birdcage coil in the form of a loop wire. The sensing element 102 picks up MR signals from an object of interest (eg, a relevant part of a patient). The pre-amplifier 103 , also known as a low noise amplifier or LNA, amplifies the MR signal, which is then digitized by the ADC circuit 105 . T...

Abstract

A radio frequency antenna comprising a resonant pickup circuit (102) arranged to pick up a magnetic resonance signal, an analog-to-digital converter (105) arranged to convert the magnetic resonance signal to digital data, and a frequency converter arranged to convert a primary band of frequencies of the digital data. By upshifting the frequency of the transmitted bit-stream, it is possible to RF-trap the transmission channel (109) by simple high-pass filtering techniques. In case the transmitted bit pattern has frequency components that approach the resonance frequency, an encoding technique like Manchester encoding can be used to eliminate unwanted signals.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a radio frequency (RF) antenna comprising: a resonant pickup circuit for picking up magnetic resonance (MR) signals at a measured frequency; an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for converting the MR signals into digital data . [0002] The invention also relates to MR imaging systems comprising such RF antennas. [0003] The invention also relates to a method of receiving MR signals using such an RF antenna, the method comprising the steps of picking up the MR signals and converting the MR signals into digital data. Background technique [0004] An embodiment of such an RF antenna is disclosed in US5491415, which discloses an embodiment of an RF coil for use in an MR imaging device, the RF coil comprising signal processing circuitry, including unpackaged component blocks mounted on the coil array of . In one embodiment, the component block comprises an ADC which digitizes the received MR signal prior to superpositio...
