Abstract

The invention relates to a composite passive optical network structure of an Ethernet passive optical network(EPON)/ subcarrier passive optical network (SCM-PON) and a processing method for utilizing the composite PON structure to bear VoD service. The EPON and the SCM-PON are combined to form the composite PON structure through wavelength division multiplexing technology. A user interface of an optical network unit (ONU) in a system is connected with a set-top box system to complete the receiving of a downlink on-demand signal and the sending of an uplink on-demand command; in an optical link unit (OLT), two video-on-demand services based on DVB(digital television) and IPTV(network television) are born on the different PON structures of different wavelength and keep transparence of a protocol. The method utilizes one part of frequency band resource of SCM-PON subcarrier and an EPON multicast mechanism to support the alternate broadcast of programmes and realizes Near Video On Demand (NVOD) of certain programmes with high on-demand rate so as to save the on-demand bandwidth. Other bandwidth resource of the SCM-PON and EPON can support real-time video-on-demand (VoD) service based on the DVB and IPTV. The method comprehensively utilizes the advantages of two on-demand modes of the NVOD and VoD and two on-demand services of the DVB and IPTV, improves the largest concurrent number supported by a network system and reduces the average waiting time of a user.
