Embodiment Construction

[0054] figure 1 An imaging system 1 for three-dimensional imaging of the interior of an object is schematically shown. The imaging system 1 comprises an endoscope 2 which is inserted in a human body 14, for example in a bladder. The endoscope 2 is connected to an operating unit 3 including a light source 4 and a detector 5 .

[0055] The light source 4 preferably emits light in the visible range. Light from the light source 4 is coupled into at least one illumination fiber bundle 10 . In this embodiment, light from the light source 4 is coupled into several illumination fiber bundles 10, such as figure 2 is shown in , and it surrounds the central collecting fiber bundle 11.

[0056] Each fiber bundle 10, 11 contains several optical fibers. In another embodiment according to the invention, the fiber bundles 10, 11 may be replaced by optical fibers each having a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the fiber bundle, eg a collection fiber surrounded by several illumina...

Abstract

The inventions relates to an imaging system and a method for three- dimensional imaging of the interior of an object. The imaging system comprises illumination means (10), detection means (11) and reconstruction means. The illumination means is adapted to illuminate the interior of the object with light, wherein the illumination means (10) is capable of generating different spatial light intensity distributions on the interior of the object. The detection means (11) is adapted to detect the different spatial light intensity distributions, and the reconstruction means is adapted to reconstructa three-dimensional image from the detected different spatial light intensity distributions. The invention relates further to an optical fiber system comprising a transfer mechanism to transfer the optical fiber system from a first condition, in which optical fibers diverge from each other, to a second condition, in which optical fibers are parallel to each other, and vice versa.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to imaging systems for three-dimensional imaging of the interior of objects. The invention further relates to the fiber optic system used in the imaging system and to a method for three-dimensional imaging of the interior of an object. Background technique [0002] In particular, in the field of minimally invasive surgery, it is very important to provide the surgeon with high quality images of the interior of the object to be treated, such as the bladder, to ensure precise advancement and use of surgical instruments within the object. [0003] It is known that during surgery, an image of the interior of an object is transmitted via an optical fiber from the tip of an endoscope to a monitor on which the surgeon can view the interior of the object. But such images are only two-dimensional images, which do not contain depth information, which is important for precise advancement and use of surgical instruments within the obj...
