Abstract

The present invention relates to a lubricating oil composition comprising lubricating oil base oil in combination with: (a) one or more substituted phenyl -naphthylamines; (b) one or more anti-wear additives, preferably ashless thiophosphates ; and (c) an additional base oil component selected from bright stock oil, polyalkylene glycols (PAGs) , alkyl naphtalenes, alkyl benzenes and natural and synthetic esters such as diesters and polyolesters, preferably bright stock oil. In another aspect the present invention provides the use of the lubricating oil composition to lubricate a combination of a gas turbine and a steam turbine.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to lubricating oil compositions, more particularly to lubricating oil compositions for lubricating turbines and especially combined lubricating oil compositions for lubricating steam and gas turbines. Background technique [0002] The advantage of using a combination of gas and steam turbines to generate electricity is that it is more efficient than using either type of turbine. This combination will be referred to as "combined cycle" hereinafter. [0003] The difficulty with lubricating combined cycles is that a very large number of different components must be lubricated, namely bearings (radial and thrust), gears, hydraulic control systems, flexible couplings and oil shaft seals. While each component may itself be lubricated, it is advantageous to use a single common lubrication system with a single common lubricant for all components. [0004] Lubricating oil compositions used in shared systems must meet a very large...
