The invention discloses a method and a device for updating configuration information, which are applied to a control system and used for downloading configuration information to be updated from a human-machine interface of a server and updating the configuration information into a controller. The controller comprises a microprocessor and a memory, wherein the memory comprises a data storage area and a buffer area; the data storage area is divided into a plurality of sub storage areas according to configuration information types; and each sub storage area corresponds to a configuration information type. The method comprises the following steps of: receiving update information sent by the server; downloading the configuration information to be updated into the buffer area according to the update information; and updating the configuration information from the buffer area to the sub storage area corresponding to the configuration information type. By dividing the data storage area into the plurality of sub storage areas according to the configuration information types, the method and the device are free from limitation of the type and length of a logical object, flexibly adapt to length change and type expansion of the logical object, support combination of various logical object numbers in different applications and reduce storage cost.
