Problems solved by technology

However, it is difficult to provide load balancing on e.g. layer 2 or layer 3 because it depends on the characteristics of the traffic in the upper layer
Also, the recovery time during which the system folds back to a valid configuration takes too long, which causes convergence problems

Abstract

Rapid channel failure detection and recovery in wireless communication networks is needed in order to meet, among other things, carrier class Ethernet channel standards. Thus, resilient wireless packet communications is provided using a physical layer link aggregation protocol with a hardware-assisted rapid channel failure detection algorithm and load balancing, preferably in combination. This functionality may be implemented in a Gigabit Ethernet data access card with an engine configured accordingly. In networks with various topologies, these features may be provided in combination with their existing protocols.

Description

technical field [0001] The present technology relates to data communications, and more particularly to resilient data communications in networks such as wireless data communications networks. Background technique [0002] Requirements for expanded capacity and increased reliability associated with data communications environments that allow voice, data, and video convergence, and storage requirements on IP networks have created a need for carrier-class availability. Carrier-class infrastructure (also known as "carrier-class" infrastructure) is considered a relatively reliable network hardware and software infrastructure. Enterprises such as mobile wireless operators, data access providers, and fixed wireless operators, as well as businesses and government agencies that operate broadband wireless networks, often use carrier-class infrastructure to handle their IP communications and mission-critical applications. For example, to carry voice traffic and real-time traffic in a ...
