Abstract

A method of cleaning and coating at least one surface of a container for holding a drug or other ingestible non-pharmaceutical product comprising the steps of employing an aqueous cleaning composition together with an aqueous cross-linked acrylic resin comprising a coating. The process enables cleaning and coating techniques to comply with current environmental regulations and workplace safety standards, including controlling the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In addition, the concentration of extractable organic compounds is reduced to the lowest practical level. The process can also be used for other binders that require low leachable organics and high adhesion to subsequently applied coatings.
