Embodiment Construction

[0044] Throughout the following description, like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements, parts, items or features, where appropriate.

[0045] exist figure 1 A cross-sectional side view of a light emitting device according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown in . The light emitting device 1 comprises a light transmissive element 2 (in this case an LED die or LED chip 3 ) and a reflector 4 (reflective structure). The light emitting device is assembled on the sub-base 6 . as from figure 1 It can be seen that the reflector 4 is arranged to partially cover the upper surface of the LED die 3 . The result is the top of LED die 3 (according to figure 1 ) surface (LED layer or semiconductor diode structure) comprises an output portion 21 for outputting light from the LED die 3 and a reflective portion 22 for reflecting the light from the LED die 3 back into the LED die. The reflected light will be reflected again and will finally hit the output port...

Abstract

The present invention relates to the field of luminous devices, in particular to a luminous device (1) comprising a light transmissive element (2). The light transmissive element further comprises a semiconductor diode structure (3) for generating light, a reflecting section (22) for reflecting light from the diode structure (3) into the light transmissive element (2) and an output section (21) for outputting light from the diode structure (3). The luminous device (1) further comprises a reflecting structure (4), at least partially enclosing side surfaces of the light transmissive element (2), for reflecting light from the diode structure (3) towards the output section (21).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of semiconductor light-emitting devices, and more particularly to a light-emitting device comprising a light-transmitting element including a semiconductor diode structure for generating light. Background technique [0002] Semiconductor diodes such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), high-power LEDs, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and laser diodes are known to be energy-efficient and small light source. This means that these diodes emit light from a relatively small area into a limited angular range, such as a hemisphere. Small and efficient optical systems can be constructed by using semiconductor diodes. Such optical systems typically collimate / direct the light for further processing as required for any particular application. Typical application examples are projection systems, automotive front lighting, camera LED flashes and spotlights. For many of these applications, it is desirable to further r...
