Embodiment Construction

[0029] The figure shows an internal combustion engine 10 in which an exhaust gas probe 14 is arranged in its exhaust gas region 12 . The exhaust gas probe 14 contains a pump unit 16 on which pump electrodes 18 , 20 are arranged, one pump electrode 18 being acted upon by the exhaust gas. Exhaust gas sensor 14 also includes a measuring cell 22 on which measuring electrodes 24 , 26 are arranged.

[0030] Between the pump unit 16 and the measuring unit 22 there is a measuring chamber 28 which is connected to the exhaust gas via an inlet duct 30 , wherein a diffusion barrier 32 is arranged between the inlet duct 30 and the measuring chamber 28 . An electrode 26 of the measuring cell 22 is arranged in a reference air channel 34 . A heating element 36 is provided for heating the exhaust gas probe 14 .

[0031] In the exhaust gas point 12 there is a waste gas valve 38 which is actuated by a valve adjustment drive 40 which is triggered by a valve signal KI.

Abstract

The method involves heating an exhaust gas probe (14) at a set-point temperature when the probe is ready to operate. An operating state of an internal combustion engine (10) is determined using a determination unit (58). Pumping signals (SP, UP, IP) are cut from time to time if a measure signal (UN) of the exhaust gas probe is not necessary based on operating state of the internal combustion engine while operating the engine. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for managing heated exhaust gas probe installed in an exhaust gas zone of an internal combustion engine, comprising a control apparatus (2) a computer program comprising instructions for executing a method for managing heated exhaust gas probe installed in an exhaust gas zone of an internal combustion engine (3) a computer program product comprising a recorded program code for executing method for managing heated exhaust gas probe installed in an exhaust gas zone of an internal combustion engine.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for operating an exhaust gas probe which is arranged in the exhaust gas region of an internal combustion engine, and to a device for carrying out the method. [0002] The subject matter of the invention is also a computer program and a computer program product. Background technique [0003] DE 199 41 051 A1 describes a broadband lambda probe which has a measuring chamber which is in communication with the exhaust gas via a diffusion barrier. An inner pump electrode is arranged in the sensor chamber, which forms a pump cell with an outer pump electrode and an oxygen-ion-conducting electrolyte located between the pump electrodes. With this pump unit, oxygen ions can be pumped out of or into the measuring chamber via the electrolyte. Next to the pump unit there is a measuring cell which is situated between the inner pump electrode and a reference gas electrode, wherein an electrolyte which conducts oxygen ions is likewi...
