Abstract

The invention discloses a method and a system for obtaining an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) of a piece of user equipment. The method applied to 3rd-generation mobile radio communication systems comprises: receiving a request message of a radio resource control (RRC) send from the user equipment by a radio network controller (RNC), and sending a non-access layer IMEI to the user equipment to obtain the request message if a process for obtaining the IMEI, that needs to be started, is determined; and adding for storage or updating an IMEI corresponding to the international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) of the user equipment, after the RNC receives the IMEI replied by the user equipment. According to the method and the system of the invention, a manufacturer, a model and a piece of version information corresponding to a piece of terminal equipment can be collected later to obtain performances of different types of terminal equipment in the network and to urge the manufacturer to update the terminal version, to improve the technology and to solve a fault.
