Embodiment Construction

[0026] Before the system is described in detail, it is to be understood that the system is not limited to the particular component parts of the devices described or steps of the methods described, as the devices and methods may vary. It is also to be understood that the terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting. It must be noted that, as used in the specification and appended claims, the singular forms "a", "an" and "the" include plural referents as well unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Thus, for example, reference to "an element" includes more than one of said element, and so on.

[0027] exist Figure 1a In the schematically illustrated embodiment, the sensor generally includes an electrode section 204 including electrode arrays 214 to 224 and a flow distributor 201 . The electrode array consecutively includes a first blank electrode 214, a first pyruvate electrode 216, a first lacta...

Abstract

A sensor for continuous detection of one or more analytes in a liquid flow, comprising an array of electrodes together forming an essentially planar sensing surface and a flow distributor with a flow inlet a flow channel and a flow outlet in order to establish a liquid flow of analytes along the sensing surface. The flow inlet and the flow outlet are located in a plane different to the plane of the sensing surface. The array of electrodes is arranged so that, in the direction from the flow inlet to the flow outlet, the array of electrodes consecutively comprises a first blank electrode, at least one measuring electrode, a second blank electrode, at least one measuring electrode and optionally a third blank electrode.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a sensor for the more reliable continuous measurement of at least one analyte in a liquid stream. Background technique [0002] Because it has recently been known that certain substances present in the body can be used as indicators of different pathological environments. Said substances are hereafter referred to as indicator substances or analytes. Examples of indicator substances are glucose, lactate, pyruvate, glycerol, glutamate, and glutamine and cardiac specific enzymes. Pathological conditions that may be indicated or detected and / or predicted include: ischemia, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, sepsis, cell membrane damage or lipolysis, vasospasm, and metabolic disturbances. By measuring indicator substances, pathological conditions can be detected before they lead to clinical signs. It is even possible to detect processes and environments that may eventually lead to pathological conditions. In many cases it woul...
