Embodiment Construction

[0022] In the following description, numerous specific details are set forth. It is understood, however, that these specific details may not be needed to practice the embodiments of the invention. In other instances, well-known circuits, structures and techniques have not been shown in detail in order not to obscure the understanding of this description. However, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced without such specific details. With the included description, those skilled in the art will be able to implement appropriate functionality without undue experimentation.

[0023] Embodiments include a basic tie-breaking procedure with specific properties including the following properties: the procedure will always resolve to a single path, is independent of the order or direction of computation, and has locality properties such that the Ties of any part of the path can be resolved without having to consider the entire pat...

Abstract

Described herein are embodiments of methods implemented for improved load distribution in at least one fat tree network node, wherein the node is one of a plurality of fat tree network nodes in the fat tree network, each of which implements tie breaking (process to produce the lowest cost tree. In some embodiments, the spanning tree computation is performed for each root node of the fat tree network in order from the lowest ranked root node to the highest ranked node, for each root node of the fat tree network The node generates a filter database, wherein the filter database includes a set of media access control (MAC) addresses of the leaf nodes of the fat tree network, and adds a link utilization for each computed tree to serve as a reference to the link for at least one tie-breaking algorithm Prefix for road identifiers.

Description

[0001] priority [0002] This application claims priority from US Provisional Application No. 61 / 373928, filed August 16, 2010, entitled "Algorithms and Automated Traffic Engineering To Apply 802.1aq to Fat Tree Networks." technical field [0003] Embodiments of the invention relate to methods and devices for improving load distribution in a network. In particular, embodiments of the invention relate to methods for load distribution in fat tree networks or other highly regular switching hierarchies with multiple equal cost paths between nodes in the network. Background technique [0004] Load distribution or load distribution is a method of using bandwidth more efficiently and improving overall performance in a network. Most of the automated load distribution and load distribution techniques deployed today operate only with a very local view, these load distribution and load distribution techniques only take into account the number of subsequent hops on the shortest path to...
