The process comprises that tetracarbon material of extraction residual of a butadiene device and H2 are put into a hydrogenation reactor A of two hydrogenation reactors in series, wherein an inlet temperature of the hydrogenation reactor is 30-45 DEG C, a reaction pressure is 1.0-2.5 MPa, a liquid hourly space velocity is 2.0-5.0 h<-1>, and a catalyst in the hydrogenation reactor is an alumina supported palladium-based catalyst or a copper-based catalyst; a tetracarbon material A is obtained; the tetracarbon material A and H2 are mixed and put into a hydrogenation reactor A of two hydrogenation reactors in series, wherein a reaction temperature is 110-160 DEG C, a pressure is 3.0-5.0 MPa, a feed volume airspeed is 3.0-6.0 h<-1>, and a catalyst in the hydrogenation reactor is an alumina supported high nickel-based catalyst; and a tetracarbon material B with an alkene content of less than 2 % is obtained.
