The heart of the propulsion system is a large low speed turbocharged two-stroke diesel main engine 2 with a crankshaft connected to the pistons by connecting rods, crossheads and piston rods. Large turbocharged two-stroke diesel engines typically have between five and sixteen in-line cylinders. The total output of the engine may range from 5,000 to 110,000 kW, for example.
