Problems solved by technology

Even so, the surgeon does not have a reliable instrument or system that allows him to easily and quickly target an area, such as the subchondral region of a joint, and deliver material to or remove material from that target area
To perform repeated or multiple procedures at the same defect site using currently available tools, additional and unnecessary time would be required in the operating room and the risk of complications would be increased due to the many instruments and procedures involved

Embodiment Construction

[0059] The present invention provides methods, devices and instruments for diagnosing and treating joint pain to restore natural joint function and preserve as much as possible the articular and cartilage surfaces of the joint. Trans-articular treatments that damage the articular and cartilage surfaces often weaken the bone and have unpredictable results. Instead of focusing on treating pain across the joint, alternative treatments are offered that diagnose and treat pain at its root in the subchondral region of the joint bone for pain relief. Pain associated with joints, especially arthritic joints, may be related to bone defects or changes at subchondral locations rather than, for example, the degree of progression of osteoarthritis or defects at the level of the joint surface. In particular, bone defects such as bone marrow lesions near the joint surface, edema, fractures, fractures, osteosclerosis, etc. lead to mechanical defects and abnormal stress distribution in the per...

Abstract

Instruments and associated methods are disclosed for treating joints, and particularly bone tissue. In general, the embodiments relate to instruments and associated methods for the surgical treatment of a joint, and particularly to a subchondral bone defect at that joint region. More specifically, the embodiments relate to instruments that allow fast, easy, precise, and controllable subchondral delivery to, or removal of materials from, a bone joint being treated. An injection needle (200) having one or more holes 216 within a helical groove 214 is disclosed. Also disclosed is a system including a cannula (410), a handle (420) and a stabilizer (430).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to instruments and devices for the surgical treatment of joints, more particularly for the subchondral repair and treatment of bone tissue at these joints, and also to related methods of use. Background technique [0002] Human joints, especially the knees, hips, and spine, are prone to degeneration due to disease, trauma, and prolonged, repeated use that can eventually lead to pain. Knee pain, for example, is the driver of the vast majority of medical and related medical costs. The most popular theory from the medical community is that knee pain is caused by bone-to-bone contact or insufficient cartilage cushioning. These conditions are generally thought to result from the development of osteoarthritis, as measured by narrowing of the joint space. Therefore, the severity of osteoarthritis is considered an indicator or precursor to joint pain. Therefore, most surgeons and medical professionals base their treatments on t...
