Embodiment Construction

[0050] In the following, refer to Figures 1 to 6 An exemplary embodiment of an inflow chamber 1 for an exhaust gas catalytic converter 2 of an emission control system is described.

[0051] In the drawing, the straight cylinder 3 of the inflow chamber 1 is arranged coaxially with respect to the flow direction of the exhaust gas in front of the likewise straight cylindrical SCR catalytic converter. The diameter DG of the main body 3 is thus substantially equal to the diameter of the SCR catalytic converter 2 , ie the diameters of the main body 3 and the SCR catalytic converter 2 do not differ by more than 10%. Figure 5 and 6 The substrate 20 of the SCR catalytic converter 2 in which the catalysis takes place is shown.

[0052] The main body 3 is formed by a side 31 and a cover welded thereon in an airtight manner, wherein the cover is located at the first end face 32 of the main body 3 . Both the sides 31 and the cover are made of stainless steel. A second end face 33 of ...

Abstract

An inflow chamber (1) for a catalytic converter (2), comprising a body (3) having a side (31) and two end faces (32, 33) spaced apart from and opposite to each other, wherein the side (31) and the first end face (32) are made of material impermeable to exhaust gas (4), the second end face (33) is permeable to exhaust gas (4). The side (31) includes an air inlet (34) for the exhaust gas (4) mixed with the reducing agent (5). The inflow chamber (2) also comprises an inlet pipe (6) made of material impermeable to exhaust gases (4) and passing through the side (31) of the body (3) in the region of the air inlet (34). The longitudinal axis of the inlet pipe (6) lies in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (LG) of the main body (3). The inlet pipe (6) extends further inside the body (3) along the longitudinal axis of the inlet pipe (6) for at least half of the diameter (DG) of the body (3), and in particular for the entire diameter (DG) of the body (3). The inlet pipe (6) has at its end inside the body (3) a baffle (61) made of a material impermeable to exhaust gas (4). The inlet pipe (6) also has, at its end inside the body (3), a discharge opening (62) close to the baffle (61) which opens the radial wall of the inlet pipe (6).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a motor vehicle emission control system that uses a liquid reductant to clean emissions. More specifically, the invention relates to the inflow chamber of an SCR catalytic converter (SCR: Selective Catalytic Reduction) of an emission control system. Background technique [0002] Flue gases from combustion plants, waste heat incineration plants, gas turbines, and factories, and exhaust / exhaust gases from engines often contain nitrogen oxides NO x . The combustion of solid, gaseous and liquid natural and fossil combustibles such as coal, natural gas, oil and wood results in the production of nitrogen oxides. Nitrogen oxides are present in particular in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines of motor vehicles and utility vehicles. The emissions from diesel engines contain particularly high nitrogen oxide contents. [0003] Nitrogen oxides (and especially NO 2 ) is suspected of irritating or damaging the resp...
