Embodiment Construction

[0021] Reference will now be made in detail to the exemplary embodiments, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Wherever possible, the same reference numbers will be used throughout the drawings to refer to the same or like parts.

[0022] In an exemplary embodiment, methods and systems use information retrieved from a patient to determine various information related to blood flow in a particular patient. The determined information may relate to blood flow in the patient's coronary vasculature. Alternatively, the determined information may relate to blood flow in other regions of the patient's vasculature, such as the carotid arteries, peripheral regions, abdomen, kidneys, and vasculature of the brain.

[0023] The coronary vascular structure includes a complex network of vessels ranging from large arteries to arterioles, capillaries, venules, veins, and the like. The coronary vasculature circulates blood to and within the heart and includes the aor...

Abstract

Embodiments include a system for providing blood flow information of a patient. The system may include at least one computer system including a touch screen. The at least one computer system may be configured to display on the touch screen a three-dimensional model representing at least a portion of the patient's anatomy based on patient-specific data. The at least one computer system may also be configured to receive a first input related to a first location on the touch screen indicated by at least one pointing object controlled by a user, and the first location on the touch screen may indicate the The first position on the displayed 3D model. The at least one computer system may also be configured to display first information on the touch screen, and the first information may be indicative of blood flow characteristics at the first location.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Patent Application Serial No. 13 / 470,802, filed May 14, 2012, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] Embodiments include methods and systems for using models of fluid flow, and more particularly methods and systems for providing information from patient-specific blood flow models. Background technique [0004] Coronary artery disease can produce coronary changes, such as stenosis (abnormal narrowing of blood vessels), in the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart. As a result, blood flow to the heart may be restricted. Patients with coronary artery disease may experience chest pain during periods of physical exertion, called chronic stable angina, or unstable angina when the patient is at rest. More serious disease manifestations can cause myocardial infarction or heart attack. [0005] One or more tests that may provide some indirect evidence of a...
