Abstract

A steering system (1) in which variations in the idle-moving distance are reduced is provided. The steering system (1) includes an upper bracket (5), an engaging portion (52) movable togeter with the upper bracket (5), a fixing portion (45), and an absorbing member (9). The position of the fixing portion (45) relative to a vehicle body (2) after a secondary collision is the same as that before the secondary collision. The absorbing member (9) has a fixed portion (46) fixed to the fixing portion (45), an engaged portion (47) opposed to the engaging portion (52), a connecting portion (48) that connects the fixed portion (46) and the engaged portion (47) to each other, and an idle-moving portion (49). Due to the presence of the idle-moving portion (49), the engaged portion (47) is located apart from the engaging portion (52) by a prescribed idle-moving distance (D). At the time of the seconday collision, the upper bracket (5) is moved in a prescribed moving direction (A).
