Problems solved by technology

[0006] In general, if the polarity inversion pattern in the inversion driving method adopted is complex, flickering is less likely to occur, but power consumption increases
On the other hand, if the polarity inversion pattern in the inversion driving method adopted is simple, the power consumption will be reduced, but flickering will easily occur

[0103]

[0104] figure 2 It is a block diagram showing the overall configuration of the liquid crystal display device according to the first embodiment of the present invention. The liquid crystal display device includes a driver control unit 100 , a panel driving unit 200 and a liquid crystal panel 300 . The panel driving unit 200 includes a source driver (video signal line driving circuit) 22 and a gate driver (scanning signal line driving circuit) 24 . The liquid crystal panel 300 includes a display unit 30 . In addition, the detailed structure of the driver control part 100 is mentioned later.

[0105] In the liquid crystal display device according to this embodiment, idle driving (low-frequency driving) is performed (see Figure 23 ). That is, after the refresh frame in which the pixel capacitance in the display unit 30 is charged, a pause frame of several frames to several tens of frames is provided. However, the number of pause frames appearing between two refre...

[0162]

[0163] A second embodiment of the present invention will be described. The overall configuration and operation of the liquid crystal display device and the configuration and operation of the driver control unit 100 are the same as those of the first embodiment, and therefore descriptions thereof are omitted (see figure 1 and figure 2 ).

[0164]

[0165] Next, the method of determining the refresh frame and the method of determining the inversion driving method will be described on differences from the first embodiment described above. In the above-mentioned first embodiment, after the frame in which the column inversion drive is performed and the frame in which the image changes, a refresh frame in which the dot inversion drive is used as an inversion drive method (the second refresh frame) is provided through a pause frame. ). On the other hand, in this embodiment, the second refresh frame is not provided after the frame in which the column inversion drivin...

Abstract

A liquid crystal display device which implements a pause-drive technique, wherein flickering is effectively suppressed while also suppressing increases in power consumption. A frame (a first input frame) to which an image signal (DAT) is inputted without making a request to the outside for the input of an image signal (DAT) is specified as a refresh frame by an inversion driving technique determination unit (106). A pause frame counting unit (102) counts the number of pause frames since the previous refresh frame as a count value. A comparison unit (104) compares the count value and a pre-set threshold value. If the count value is equal to or greater than the threshold value, the inversion drive technique determination unit (106) sets the inversion drive technique of the first input frame to the dot inversion drive technique. If the count value is less than the threshold value, the inversion drive system determination unit (106) sets the inversion drive technique of the first input frame to the column inversion drive technique.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device, and more particularly, to a liquid crystal display device performing idle driving (low frequency driving) and a driving method thereof. Background technique [0002] Conventionally, an active matrix liquid crystal display device including a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) as a switching element is known. This liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel including two insulating substrates facing each other. On one substrate of the liquid crystal panel, gate bus lines (scanning signal lines) and source bus lines (video signal lines) are provided in a grid pattern, and TFTs are provided near intersections of the gate bus lines and source bus lines. The TFT includes: a gate electrode connected to a gate bus line; a source electrode connected to a source bus line; and a drain electrode. The drain electrode of each TFT is connected to one of a plurality of pixel electrodes arran...
