The method is implemented through insulator leakage, and comprises the following steps: a monitoring device synchronously collects leakage current and the relative humidity of the environment; band-pass filtering is carried out on the leakage current; the relative humidity is verified; the fundamental component of voltage is deduced; phase information of voltage and leakage current at the same moment under different relative humidity is extracted; the phase difference between the voltage and the leakage current is calculated; the relative humidity is verified; the K value is calculated; a table of K values and pollution levels is queried to obtain the level of insulator surface pollution. According to the invention, the phase of voltage can be obtained without measuring a voltage signal, the level of insulator surface pollution is evaluated based on the phase difference between the leakage current and the voltage of an insulator and the humidity change, and real-time monitoring of insulator surface pollution level is realized.
