Abstract

The present application relates to polymer compositions for the manufacture of polyphenol-based foams, and processes therefor. The polymer composition used to make the polyphenol-based foam comprises isocyanate, acid catalyst and tannin. The composition has a mixed tannin-furan-isocyanate structure, where the tannin is part of the resin with reactant functionality for the composition and is completely free of low boiling point solvents. The amount of isocyanate is significantly greater than 1% by weight of the composition, preferably not less than 10% by weight relative to the composition. Said composition is suitable for obtaining foams by means of plants for the manufacture of polyurethane foams.
