The detection method comprises the following step: detecting the actual temperature at the refrigerator outlet of an outdoor unit of an air conditioner, comparing the actual temperature with the preset temperature, and inputting the comparative result to an air conditioning motherboard; when the actual temperature is lower than the preset temperature, the air conditioning motherboard gives an alarm that the refrigerant is insufficient; when actual temperature is higher than or equal to the preset temperature, the air conditioner normally works. The detection method can automatically judge whether the air conditioning refrigerant is insufficient or not only by detecting the actual temperature at the refrigerator outlet of the outdoor unit of the air conditioner, the principle is simple, and a serviceman can conveniently learn the fault causes of the air conditioner and can quickly handle faults.
